Business Intelligence Architecture Transformation and Modernization

Context

World Flight Services (WFS), a leading player in the airport sector, operates globally, providing a comprehensive range of aircraft, cargo, and passenger handling services. In response to the diversity of its operational systems and the geographical dispersion of its various Business Units, WFS management decided to migrate its on-premise Business Intelligence architecture to the cloud, implementing a group-wide data platform. The goal is to centralize and standardize data to generate more accurate and rapidly accessible reports across finance, procurement, human resources, and the executive committee.

Challenges

WFS faces several significant challenges, including the centralization of geographically dispersed data, migration to the cloud while ensuring security and performance, and the need to produce reliable and accurate reports at the group level.

Solutions & methodologies

The project management phases encompass project management support, scoping and defining requirements, application acceptance, and change management. The technologies utilized span a wide spectrum, including Oracle for storage, Informatica for ETL/Data Preparation, and SAP BO BI 4 for reporting, employing languages such as SQL and Java. Our approach focuses on migrating and modernizing the BI architecture. We established a dedicated team that collaborated closely with the various BUs of WFS Holding to ensure a seamless transition to the cloud and the implementation of a unified data platform for the group. Project phases included requirements analysis, data migration, report and dashboard development, and end-user training. To accomplish this, we utilized advanced technologies such as Snowflake and AWS S3 for cloud data storage, Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services for ETL/Data Preparation, Informatica Data Quality for maintaining data integrity, and SSRS, Tableau, and Power BI for reporting and data visualization.

Benefits

This data transformation has enabled WFS to achieve several tangible benefits:

  • Centralization and standardization of data for improved governance and decision-making.
  • Fast, secure access to data from any geographical location.
  • More accurate and quickly accessible group-level reports.
  • Enhanced operational efficiency and overall corporate performance.
