Context
Founded in 2010, the Bordeaux-Euratlantique Public Development Establishment (EPA) is dedicated to leading the urban renewal of both banks of the Garonne River across a dozen districts. The organization aims to support the development of the Bordeaux metropolis while limiting urban sprawl, with the goal of creating 30,000 jobs and meeting the housing needs of 50,000 residents by 2040.
To enhance its IT and communication capabilities, EPA Bordeaux Euratlantique has collaborated with TRIMANE to develop a custom IT solution for analyzing and optimizing business data, as part of a successful transformation process that has unfolded over several years.
Challenges
As part of its geographic information system operations, EPA Bordeaux Euratlantique seeks to upgrade its IGGI application (data entry interfaces and administration of business databases) to fully leverage the business data collected.
The primary challenge is to provide a decision-making tool that enables the creation of dynamic dashboards and facilitates data interrogation through a simple and intuitive querying interface.
Solutions & methodologies
Since 2019, EPA Bordeaux Euratlantique has been under contract with TRIMANE for various data projects. The institution aimed to leverage TRIMANE’s expertise to develop an operational data analysis tool. TRIMANE recommended maintaining the existing BI database architecture, capitalizing on its efficiency and practicality. The integration of Microsoft Power BI provided Bordeaux Euratlantique with a robust and innovative data visualization tool.
A team of three consultants, including a project manager and two developers, was mobilized to implement this solution, utilizing technologies such as Microsoft Power BI, PostgreSQL for database storage, and Talend for data integration.
Benefits
As a result of this initiative, the public institution now enjoys:
- A high-performance data visualization tool that allows for the creation of dashboards and data queries in a simple, intuitive, and dynamic manner, accessible to all internal users.
- In-house control over data refresh rates in the BI tool, including both the BI database and the querying tool.
- A trained internal team proficient in the Power BI data visualization tool, ready to harness its full potential.
