Context
OPCO 2i, a state-approved skills development agency, supports nearly 80,000 companies and 3 million employees across 29 industrial sectors in France. It promotes vocational training by funding apprenticeship and professional development contracts, and by helping to define professional certifications tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In an effort to enhance its data analysis and optimize decision-making, OPCO 2i has begun migrating its data visualization solution from Tableau Software to Power BI.
This project involves migrating 19 reports covering strategic areas such as disbursements, financial commitments, and apprenticeship tracking.
Challenges
The key challenges of this migration include maintaining uninterrupted service continuity, reducing licensing costs, meeting critical deadlines due to the Tableau license renewal date, and minimizing the impact on end users to encourage rapid adoption of Power BI. It is also necessary to adhere to the company’s brand guidelines while establishing effective data governance.
Solutions & methodologies
TRIMANE developed a clear, multi-step strategy for this migration.
The team began by planning the migration, ensuring that the 19 reports were faithfully replicated in Power BI. Unit and technical tests were conducted to ensure the compliance and performance of the migrated reports. Once validated, they were deployed across OPCO 2i’s various environments.
Throughout the process, TRIMANE optimized the reports and structured the Power BI environment. To facilitate project management, regular meetings were held, fostering effective collaboration with OPCO 2i. The dedicated team, comprising a project manager, a data architect, six Power BI developers, and a quality analyst, worked in a coordinated manner to ensure the migration’s success.
Benefits
Ultimately, this resulted in two major benefits for OPCO 2i :
- A successful migration to Power BI without any service disruption.
- Rapid adoption of the new solution by end users.
- Compliance with internal standards and improved reporting performance.
This positive collaboration was recently strengthened by the signing of a multi-vendor framework agreement between OPCO 2i and TRIMANE to support the organization in its upcoming data projects. This new collaboration reflects the trust established between TRIMANE and OPCO 2i.
